MORAL VALUES AND ABORTION |

The moral values of various cultures see the practice of giving gifts (bribes) to obtain their goals as a proper way of life. In our culture on the other hand (a bit hypocritically) bribery in the market place is a no-no (especially if you get caught!).
The moral values of the various cannibal tribes saw nothing wrong with the killing AND EATING of another human AS LONG AS they were from another tribe! The vast majority of cultures though look at killing of another human being as morally wrong and they call it murder. To these the mere thought of eating a human is utterly revolting.
Or again consider the moral values of the underworld mobs, such as the Mafia. To them murder is a way of lifeAS LONG AS it is someone outside their own gang.
ABORTION, is it morally wrong? Is it murder? To a very large number, perhaps even a majority, of this late 20th century, "highly developed" Western culture, abortion is perfectly acceptable to their moral values. To them it is no more immoral than having their big toe amputatedafter all it is only a little bit of flesh, bone and blood!
Abortion, is it murder? To many religious people it is not murder. To other religious (and many non-religious) people abortion is murder. How then shall we arrive at the right answer? Or is there a RIGHT answer?
To find the answer to any moral question we must first answer the question of whether there is a God who created the universe. Second, if there is such a God has He revealed the moral values of His universe? The very universe, of which we are a part, proves to any reasonable man that there is a God who made it [PSA 19:1-3; ROM 1:19, 20]. To the second question the answer is yes. There is a book, which we call the Bible, which claims to be the Word of God to mankind [see for example ISA 34:16]. The facts show that claim to be true. In the Bible the moral values are very clearly set forth. The Ten Commandments [EXO 20:1-17] is one of the most concise yet comprehensive statements of the moral values given in the Bible. One of these commands says, You shall not murder [vs. 13]. But the abortionists argue that the fetus in the woman's womb is not a person. To them it is merely an impersonal blob of flesh, bone and blood. Does the Bible settle the matter for Christians? God has spoken in His Word on this matter. Can a small impersonal blob of flesh, bone and blood experience JOY? The answer is obviously, No. According to the gospel of Luke, Elizabeth the mother of John the Baptist, tells us that, as soon as the voice of your (Mary's) salutation sounded in my ears, the baby (six months along) leaped in my womb FOR JOY [Luke 1:4]. Or can a small impersonal hunk of flesh, bone and blood be a sinner? Again the answer can only be, No. In Psalm 51:5 David very plainly acknowledges that he was a sinner from the very moment of his conception. Again, can a small bit of flesh, bone and blood be impersonal and a LIFE? Absolutely not. Among the verses following the Ten Commandments in Exodus which elaborate on some of them we read in chapter 21 verses 22 and 23 that, If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her child come forth, but there is no injury, he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him and he shall pay as the judges determine. BUT if any injury follow, then you shall give LIFE for LIFE.Those who advocate abortion are not following the moral values taught in the Old and New Testaments. ABORTION IS MURDER.
ABORTION AND WOMEN'S RIGHTS For You did form my inward parts; You did weave me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the Earth. Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them [PSA 139:13-16]. These verses show plainly that from the very point of conception that one is a person recognized by God.We who live in Canada are very fortunate indeed in very many respects. For instance we are privileged to have many rights which are not enjoyed in many other countries. Most of these are rights that all mankind OUGHT to have. We do not have in mind only the former Soviet Union where, for example, it was illegal to teach children one's religion; or India where the right to win converts from Hinduism is denied; or even Israel where it is against the law to win the Jews to the Lord Jesus Christ--their rejected Messiah.
There are occasions, however, when what we demand as a RIGHT is not a RIGHT at all. These are those instances when we demand what is morally wrong. We want to legitimize our sin. We want a license to live contrary to the laws of nature and the God who made it all. If we were God we could set the rules. Since we are not we are subject to His rules AND sooner or later we will bear the penalty for their violation.
One of the most flagrant of these anti-God "RIGHTS" is that demanded by various modern feminist groups to give women the "RIGHT" (legal authority) to abort the child conceived in their wombs. This is morally wrong. It is murder. Though a society may legalize murder this does not make it RIGHT. To go contrary to the laws of nature brings disaster. It cannot be done without eventually facing the judgment of God.
One person's RIGHTS end where another's begins. One has every right to walk up and down the street and flail the air to their heart's content BUT when one of those swings lands on someone else's nose the RIGHT ended where that nose began! When a woman aborts her little baby she has violated the RIGHTS of that helpless little one. THAT IS WRONGit is murder.
The little baby is helpless. Not only that but they had no part in deciding to be conceived in the first place. Young women, if you are married and do not want a child, take the necessary steps to avoid having one. You who are not married YOU have no business going to bed with a man in the first place. Men, you are just as responsible and many times more so than the woman because of your ungodly relations with them.
So you find yourself with child; and/or your sin has caught up with you. What should you do? Nourish and care for that little one to the very best of your ability, as countless generations have done before you.
There is mercy promised for the repentant sinner. Know you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the Kingdom of God? Be not deceived . . . AND SUCH WERE SOME OF YOU, but you are washed, but you are sanctified [1CO 6:9-11].This Page Last Updated: 12/04/98 A. Allison Lewis aalewis@christianbeliefs.org
