Schedule for a New Believer
January | February | March | April
May | June | July | August | September
October | November | December

For whatever things were previously written were written for our learning, in order that through patience and through the comfort of the Scriptures we may have hope. [Romans 15:4-aal]

Man shall not live on bread only, but on every saying proceeding from the mouth of God. [Matthew 4:4-aal]

Read & Study Your Bible Daily

Careful and prayerful reading the Bible through for five or six years provides a foundation for other more specialized study of the Bible, and will do more to keep the child of God who is earnest and honest (yes honest - all too often readers read into the text their wishes and desires even though plainly contrary to what the Bible text actually teaches) correct in their interpretation of the Bible's various parts than anything else one could possibly do.

The Bible Is The Word Of God

The Bible is the result of the extraordinary supernatural influence exerted by the Holy Spirit on the various writers, by which their words were rendered also the words of God, and therefore, absolutely infallible in the original autographs.

We believe that God, in His providence, has preserved the Bible so that the copies and translations that we have today (corrupted as many of them are) are, for all practical purposes, the same as the original writings.

A WARNING

Many poor copies and translations of the Bible have been produced. Get the best translation, in your language, that is available.

Any man's system of "theology", or sermons and commentaries (including the writings of the Apostolic Fathers, Church Fathers, Reformers, or your favorite preacher) must be read and listened to in the critical light of the Bible itself. These...were daily examining the Scriptures whether those things were so. [Acts 17:11-aal]

For English speaking readers we recommend the New American Standard Version [NAU] (1995 edition) for reading, study and memorizing. The NAU currently gives the most literal, yet readable rendering of the Hebrew and Greek texts. EVEN this version can and should be improved.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES
in preparing this schedule: by A. Allison Lewis

OLD TESTAMENT:

  1. To place the books in chronological order according to event
(NOT according to the date of writing)
  2. To make the divisions according to the paragraph or thought breaks in the text
  3. To make the amount of reading (as close as practical) equal each day
  4. Where No.'s 2 and 3 conflict an * (asterisk has been inserted to show that the thought continues in the next day's reading)

NEW TESTAMENT:

  1. To make the divisions according to the paragraph or thought breaks in the text
  2. To make the amount of reading (as close as practical) equal each day
  3. Where No.'s 1 and 2 conflict an * (asterisk has been inserted to show that the thought continues in the next day's reading)
  4. The Gospel of John has purposely been placed between Mark and Luke to:
    • Give a break in reading the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) which are written very much in the same manner whereas John's Gospel follows a very different manner, AND
    • To put Luke's two books together
